THE COMPLETE PICTURE

About the project

South African Maskandi artist Sminofu released iTekisi, a 17-track album, on 16 October 2026 through Sminofu / EMPIRE. The project adds a substantial collection to the artist's music catalogue, bringing together solo performances and collaborations with several performers from the South African music scene. Featured artists include Londeka Shangase, Ojakalasi, Njabulo Langa, and Zanefa Ngidi. With a total running time of approximately 66 minutes, iTekisi gives listeners an extended opportunity to explore Sminofu’s music. The title, which means “the taxi” in isiZulu, draws on a familiar part of everyday South African life and provides an interesting starting point for discovering the album.

The album opens with “Benilindele Bani (Intro),” followed by the title track, “iTekisi.” Other songs include “Amalengiso,” “Why Umehlulela,” “Igeja,” “Umuntu Ongenacala,” and “Ngithunjiwe,” featuring Londeka Shangase. The tracklist continues with “Madagascar,” “Emabhilidini,” featuring Ojakalasi, “Es’thenjini,” and “Imizamo.” Further collaborations appear on “Umalumekazi,” featuring Njabulo Langa, and “Njengobaba,” featuring Zanefa Ngidi. Londeka Shangase also appears on “Ngo December,” while “Imidlwembe,” “Iyeke Leyondaba,” and “eMachobeni” complete the collection. This lineup gives fans a mixture of solo recordings and guest appearances across the 17-song project.

For listeners searching for the Sminofu iTekisi album tracklist, this release offers a comprehensive collection of Maskandi music to explore in 2026. The title track provides a natural entry point, while songs such as “Madagascar,” “Emabhilidini,” and “Ngo December” offer opportunities to discover the album's featured performers. The project's everyday-life-inspired title also connects it to familiar experiences and the storytelling tradition associated with Maskandi music. Whether you already follow Sminofu or are discovering the artist for the first time, iTekisi is a release worth exploring as part of the latest South African music catalogue.
