THE COMPLETE PICTURE

About the project

Smiselo has released Akulula ungikholwe, a five-track Maskandi EP that offers listeners a compact 24-minute project with a clear start-to-finish sequence. Official release listings identify the project as an EP, rather than a full studio album, and place its arrival on 16 October 2026. The release opens with “Yini ungafuni,” establishing Smiselo as the focal voice before moving into the title track, “Akulula ungikholwe.” With five songs instead of an extended tracklist, the project gives fans a concise introduction to the artist’s current music and provides an easy entry point for listeners discovering new Maskandi releases.

The title cut features Qhawelisha, marking the first collaboration on the EP. Smiselo then teams up with Yellowbone lezwe on “Intombi yakwaMbatha,” giving the project a second featured moment. These pairings add contrast to the short release while maintaining a consistent artist-led identity. The remaining tracks, “Ngifuna umtanami” and “Kufanele ngibonge,” return the focus to Smiselo, balancing the guest appearances with solo material. That structure gives the EP three individual performances and two collaborative songs, creating variety without stretching beyond its concise format.

The final track, “Kufanele ngibonge,” is the EP’s longest song at more than eight minutes, offering a longer closing moment after the project’s shorter preceding cuts. From “Yini ungafuni” through to its final track, Akulula ungikholwe provides a direct five-song run for Maskandi listeners, bloggers, and playlist curators looking for fresh South African music. With Qhawelisha and Yellowbone lezwe contributing to key songs, Smiselo has delivered a focused release that keeps the spotlight on his own developing catalogue while welcoming selected collaborators into the project.
