THE COMPLETE PICTURE

About the project

Black Motion and Spice Drums have released Pula le Maatla, a new 11-track dance and electronic album issued through Next Music on 23 October 2026. The project brings together a wide group of South African contributors, including Tshwane Gospel Choir, Mr. Mercedes, Philharmonic, King Monopoly, S-Que, Miss Q, Nobuhle, and Tlabzin. With its wide range of collaborators and BPMs spanning approximately 88 to 123, Pula le Maatla presents a varied full-length release from Black Motion and Spice Drums rather than a project built around one vocal style or mood.

The album opens with “Ngonyama,” featuring Tshwane Gospel Choir and Mr. Mercedes, before moving into “Empilweni” with Philharmonic. Other titles on the tracklist include “Ubumnandi,” “Izulu lam (My Heaven),” “Umalambane (Afrocentric Mix)” with King Monopoly, and “Prayer for Women (Afro-Jazz Interlude)” with S-Que. “Thonga” brings Philharmonic and Miss Q into the project, while “Dali” features Nobuhle. These credits underline the album’s collaborative nature, with each featured artist contributing to a different moment in the sequence.

The release also includes “Pula Yana,” the earlier single from Black Motion, Spice Drums, and Tlabzin, alongside “iButho (Ancestral Mix)” and the bonus track “Angola Swing.” Pula le Maatla gives Black Motion and Spice Drums a large creative platform to connect gospel, electronic, jazz-influenced, and dance-oriented contributors within one release. For listeners following new South African electronic music, the album is worth experiencing in track order to hear how its guest artists and instrumental ideas unfold across the full project.
